Our quilts contain various types of batting, 100% hand made cotton battings for premium old world quality, Dacron polyester, wool or silk.
Special Note regarding our Exclusive
Hand Made Cotton Batting:
Our cotton battings that are used to fill our Museum Quality antique reproductions are EXCLUSIVE HAND MADE COTTON BATTINGS and are made by us for our antique reproduction line of quilts for unmatched additional authenticity. These battings are made from raw washed and carded ( lightly ginned) 100% cotton. These unique pieces are then hand placed onto the backing materials. Then the pieced worked (patchwork) quilt top is placed on this hand made batting and then hand quilted as normal.
This is the only method that we have found over the years that TRULY gives the complete look of a true antique quilt. , The cotton battings that are available in the general market are either to thin , or have been combined (mated) with SCRIM which is a polyester webbing in order to give this commercial cotton batting strength so it does not tear apart, even if the quilting has up to 5 inch gaps between the quilting. This is acceptable only if you want VERY LITTLE quilting on your hand made quilt , but it can NEVER give the true look of an antique quilt! A quilt should be designed so that the batting materials come apart slightly to fill the channels that are created by the hand quilting.
To my knowledge we are the ONLY COMPANY TO OFFER THIS TYPE OF BATTING, STANDARD IN OUR MUSEUM QUALITY ANTIQUE REPRODUCTION LINE OF QUILTS.
Special note regarding wool and silk batting:
Because of the extra processing required with the use of wool and silk batting, these quilts will be available only by special order and a deposit will be required.
